 Ananova:
Convict says sorry with a flower

A prisoner who escaped from a US jail left a toilet paper origami flower behind as his way of saying sorry.

When he was later recaptured, Luis Camacho-Mendoza said leaving the flower was an "act of remorse", say police.

Camacho-Mendoza escaped from a detention centre in Crawford County, Arkansas, reports the local Times Record newspaper.

He was found a day later hiding in a cupboard at a nearby house after a tip-off and arrested by a SWAT team who returned him to custody.

Ken Howard, of the Crawford County Sheriff's Office, said his head and most of his upper-body were tucked in a pillow case and the rest of his body was hidden by a pile of clothing when he was found.

"But he wasn't hiding too good because you could see the outline of his head in the pillow case," Howard said.

Camacho-Mendoza was supposed to be performing kitchen duties in prison when he used a tool to manipulate locks on a kitchen door that led to the outside world.

He left behind a rose he made from toilet paper which he later said was a gift to jail administrator, Capt Jeff Marvin.

"When we asked him about that, he said he felt sorry for the captain for escaping," Howard said. "The flower looked pretty nice."

Camacho-Mendoza is being held at the detention centre after he was arrested on suspicion of drug offences. He faces deportation to Mexico.
