The Tory Party is crying foul over outrageous e-mails attacking them and telling voters to back Labour.
One e-poster has a photo of Anne Widdecombe saying: "Vote Labour.....or next time she's naked." Others are more abusive and use foul language. The Labour Party says it's not an official campaign, but admits it may have been started by a Labour supporter. A second e-poster features goofy pictures of Ms Widdecombe, William Hague and Michael Portillo. The caption, too obscene to repeat in full, says, "The Tories - For F*** sakes, just look at the state of the c****." Tory officials are demanding the Labour Party take action against whoever is behind the campaign. A Conservative spokesman said: "This type of crass and offensive material has no place in British politics and we hope the Labour Party will dissociate themselves entirely from it." Labour denied sanctioning the e-posters, the nastiest of which carries the official Labour rose logo. A Labour spokeswoman said: "These adverts are not our style. Our campaign is based on optimism and being positive about our vision for Britain. "They are being portrayed as adverts and they haven't come anywhere near us." |
