The clubbers invaded the Milton Keynes store to pay tribute to former nightclub, The Sanctuary, which was bulldozed to make way for the store in 2004.

Pregnant woman and families with their children were among the party crowd who danced for around five minutes in the textiles department, reports Sky News.

Video footage shows them jumping up and down, some wearing fluorescent vests and others blowing whistles.

The event was organised on Facebook, and one member, Daniel Beale,

wrote: "Loving the Re-union!! I was going to create havoc with my four year old in my arms!! But hey, we turned up, and my kids attended a little piece of hardcore history.

"I first stepped foot in the Sanctuary in '96 and went almost every weekend after. I think you guys made a good effort and much respect to all who turned up.

"The looks on the faces of all those shoppers will remain with me forever!"

Another said: "Just before time, Ikea staff stopped more from coming through... when the horn blew the place went crazy, whistles and ravers galore."

A spokesman for Ikea said: "We can confirm it happened and about 50 people turned up but we don't want to comment any further."

Buckinghamshire Police confirmed they were aware of the event. A spokesman said: "They wanted to go back to Ikea in Milton Keynes because where it is based used to be The Sanctuary nightclub."
