More than half of the girls in Iran wish they had been born boys, according to a new survey. In total, 53 per cent of those interviewed said that if they were to be born again and had the choice they would be boys. The results seem to prove that, despite reforms by moderate President Mohammad Khatami, many of the women still feel restricted by religious codes like those which require them to cover their hair and body. The study by Manouchehr Mohseni, a professor of sociology, were published in the country's Kar Va Kargar newspaper but no other details were given. |
