The world's tallest man has met Asia's tallest woman by chance at a hospital where they were both undergoing brain surgery to try to halt their growth.

Wang Fengjun, who is 7ft 9ins, met Yao Defen, who is 7ft 6ins, at the Sanjui Hospital, Guangzhou, southern China.

Wang was operated on earlier this year to remove an overactive gland producing growth hormones.

He is a peasant worker from Henan province who has been suffering from abnormal growth since the age of 13.

Wang wants to become an actor working in films or advertising while Yao would like to work in showbiz or at a circus.

The Beijing Weekly reports that Wang was refused as a patient by several hospitals who deemed treating him too risky until he was finally accepted by the neuro-surgery department of Sanjiu Hospital.
