A Spanish drug smuggler's 'Freudian slip' on an in-flight customs card has landed him in court. Jose Antonio Campos-Cloute was carrying 1.4kg of pure cocaine to Melbourne when he inexplicably admitted "yes" to carrying prohibited goods. His lawyer, David McKenzie, told a court in Melbourne that the 53-year-old answered "no" to every question on his customs card - except the one that asked if he was bringing into Australia anything banned, such as illicit drugs. After the defendant pleaded guilty to one charge of importing a prohibited substance, the court was told it was a "classic Freudian slip". Unemployed Campos-Cloute had borrowed heavily from a loan shark and was levered into acting as a courier, reports The Age website. He told police he expected to make about $14,850 (£10,330) for importing the cocaine, worth up to $750,000 (£286,000). He will be sentenced at a later date. |
