An internet site offering ready written A-grade essays has been suspended after a barrage of complaints from teachers. Access to essays on the Revise. It website was blocked by its founders, two Oxford University students, after they were accused of encouraging cheating. The website contained a free bank of GCSE and A-Level essays on a range of subjects, and even featured tips on how to doctor copied essays to make them look like a students' own work. Nineteen-year-olds Jordan Mayo and Nick Rose have now barred access to the site after teachers and lecturers posted strong criticism of the facility on the website, the Daily Mail newspaper reports. Dr Douglas Reid, a lecturer in economics and social history at Hull University, told the pair: "Your encouragement to plagiarism stinks. You obviously have limited moral horizons and your self-identification as students of Oxford University brings the university's name into disrepoute." A message on the website from Mr Rose and Mr Mayo said that due to "concerns raised regarding the potential misuse of GCSE coursework" a consultation process with students and teachers would take place "to determine the best course of action." The statement added: "We would always implore students never ever to cheat in official examinations or coursework." |
