 Ananova:
Italy child rapist arrested in Romania

A Romanian man accused of raping and killing a five-year-old girl in Italy has been arrested in his homeland after a month on the run.

Police spokeswoman Daniela Pugliese said Vasile Donciu, 20, was arrested in Episcopie, a Romanian town near the Hungarian border. Police found him through wiretaps of his relatives. Pugliese did not know if Italy had asked for Donciu's extradition.

Donciu is wanted in Italy for the murder of Hagere Kilani, a Tunisian girl who was abducted, raped and stabbed to death in Imperia, on the Italian Riviera, in August.

The girl's body was found in Donciu's apartment just metres from her own home. Donciu was in Italy illegally. The murder sparked outrage in Italy and ignited a debate over how to protect children from paedophiles.

One newspaper published the names of convicted sex offenders, following the example of papers in Britain and Belgium. There were also calls for chemical castration of sex offenders.
