 Ananova:
Government appoints 'Webmaster General'

The Labour Government has appointed its first director of e-communications.

Lucian Hudson, who will be based in the Cabinet Office, will help the Government to fulfil its pledge that all of its services are online within the next five years.

He will head the team responsible for developing new content for the UK online government portal and coordinating work across separate departments and agencies.

Hudson was previously editorial director of the careers website Justpeople.com and also worked for 12 years at the BBC's commercial arm, BBC Worldwide.

The government is in the process of appointing Hudson's new boss, the next e-envoy. Alex Allen announced that he was leaving the civil service post last month.
