Robbie Williams has announced his plans to give up smoking.

The singer, 29, is expected to move out of the public eye as a hectic world tour winds down in December after almost six months on the road.

Williams revealed his resolution as he rounded off his recording of a BBC Radio 2 concert in front of 300 fans.

He said: "This has been the end of a wonderful year for me. The best year I've ever had. I'm going to go away and re-dream everything and come back as a new me - thank you for being there.

"When you're growing up you drink, you smoke you do whatever you do and you go for it and you don't even question your mortality.

"Well I definitely know that I'm 30 and y'know people leave this Earth - so I'm giving up smoking.

"All of sudden it's turned into smokers anonymous - hello I'm Robbie Williams I'm a smoke addict, I've been a smoker now for 5 minutes."
