Andy Scott Lee says he thought it was funny when his girlfriend, Michelle from Liberty X, heckled Simon Cowell.

Cowell said Pop Idol was all about the winner and Michelle shouted from the audience: "What about Gareth Gates."

Andy, who was voted off the show, said: "I've still not seen it so I don't know exactly what was said, but I think it's quite funny actually. Fair do's to her for sticking up to me!"

He said he had been shocked to be voted off but still hoped he would get a record deal, reports Radio One.

"Whoever comes second will get a deal anyway and whoever comes third will probably get a deal as well. So although it is 'Pop Idol', I'm sure you don't have to win it to do well out of it."
