The NME has named Justin Timberlake as the coolest person in the world. The magazine said: "A magic alignment of killer career moves, genuine talent, charm and good looks rocketed him into that rareified section of the stratosphere where a star can do no wrong and it all looks absolutely effortless." Close behind Justin in the NME 2003 Cool List were two female stars - Brody Dalle of the Distillers and Meg White of the White Stripes. There were a few archetypal male rock icons in the top ten - including Caleb Followill (Kings of Leon), Carl Barat (The Libertines) and Albert Hammond Jnr (The Strokes). But more mainstream artists, including Beyonce, Christina Aguilera and Sean Paul, also made it into the top 20. Editor Conor McNicholas said: "The NME Cool List is a reflection of how exciting the music scene is right now. "Whether it is wearing the right clothes, being magnetically charismatic or deliberately trashing their talent for the sake of it, all of the entries in this years list have one thing in common - the X factor." Meanwhile the NME Fool List names and shames those that have been anything but cool over the past 12 months. Fred Durst tops the list, following his short-lived fling with Britney, while hot on his heels were Damon Albarn, Peter Brame and Rod Stewart. |
