David Beckham is to make a guest appearance in The Simpsons after all.

The 28-year-old Real Madrid star is set to take a cameo role as himself in the cartoon series.

The decision to feature him is a U-turn for the show's makers who just eight months said he wasn't well enough known to be offered a part.

Executive producer Al Jean said at the time: "We thought about Becks but soccer isn't big in the States. He's not really famous enough. I've heard of him because my daughter plays soccer."

Producers changed their mind after Beckham and wife Victoria raised their profile in the US with a publicity tour of New York and Los Angeles in the summer, reports The Sun.
