 Ananova:
Poulter books US Open spot

Ian Poulter's season has at last taken a turn for the better with him grabbing a last-gasp place in next week's US Open.

The Ryder Cup star, who failed to qualify for the Masters and last month was fined £5,000 for a verbal outburst during the Irish Open, found his best game to share first place in the qualifying tournament in Columbus, Ohio.

Poulter carded rounds of 65 and 66 and with Benjamin Hayes was four clear of the rest of the field.

There was more disappointment for his close friend Justin Rose and for former British Open champion John Daly, however. They were in a 15-man play-off but failed to grab the one place on offer.
