 Ananova:
Williams crashes out

Venus Williams was sent crashing out of the Bausch & Lomb Championships after suffering defeat against France's Tatiana Golovin.

Five-time Grand Slam champion Williams is looking to re-establish herself as a dominant player on the WTA Tour after recovering from a left wrist injury, but she was comfortably beaten by 19-year-old Golovin on Friday.

The eighth seed dominated throughout to condemn home favourite Williams to a 6-2 6-3 defeat and set up a semi-final clash against Ana Ivanovic.

Ivanovic had earlier beaten Jelena Jankovic 7-5 6-3 to ensure her progress while Sybille Bammer defeated Daniel Hantuchova 2-6 6-2 6-2.
