 Ananova:
Jackson cruises into final

Colin Jackson kept his Olympic dream alive in Sydney as he qualified for the final of the 110metres hurdles.

The 33-year-old world champion, who is bidding to win a Games gold for the fourth and final time, finished third in his semi-final in the Olympic Stadium.

Jackson clocked 13.34 seconds to finish just 0.01 seconds behind America's defending champion Allen Johnson though the top two were upstaged by another American, Terrence Trammell, who won in 13.32.

But Cuba's Anier Garcia, who was second to Jackson at last year's worlds, looks the big danger after winning the opening semi-final in 13.16.

Welshman Jackson and Johnson, who looked over the hamstring problems he suffered just before arriving in Sydney, have both said Garcia is their biggest threat.

Jackson won silver in Seoul 12 years ago but in Barcelona in 1992 and Atlanta four years ago he was troubled by injury and finished seventh and fourth respectively.

The Cardiff-born runner has said he will quit after a farewell tour next this and tonight's final is his last chance of winning the only major medal to have eluded him.

In the women's 100m hurdles, Liverpool's Diane Allahgreen went out in the semi-final stage finishing eighth in 13.22 secs.

"It was just too tough a race," said Allahgreen. "I was in with some of the fastest girls in the world.

"I have also got an Achilles problem which stops me coming up on my toes, but this will be a good experience for the future."

Natasha Danvers produced a virtuoso performance in the women's 400m hurdles to qualify for the final on Wednesday.

Danvers, the American collegiate champion who wants to be a singer, sliced 0.31secs off her personal best for third place in 54.95.

The Croydon-born runner, who was 23 last week, qualified despite being drawn in the outside lane but her fine run sent America's world record holder Kim Batten crashing out in the process.
