Olympic sprint champion Marion Jones will return to European track action at the Norwich Union Grand Prix in Birmingham on February 20. The American will compete over 60 metres at the National Indoor Arena as part of her build-up to the Olympics in August, while she participates in an indoor long jump for the first time. Jones has not competed in Europe since winning at the World Cup in Madrid in September 2002. In June 2003 she gave birth to a baby boy Tim, the son of world 100m record holder Tim Montgomery. Jones will be joined by other stars at the meeting such as Maria Mutola, Haile Gebrselassie and Darren Campbell. Jones said: "After a year out of competition having a baby, I feel it is important to get back onto the track at the earliest opportunity. "I always enjoy competing in the UK and the Norwich Union Grand Prix in Birmingham suits my Athens preparations perfectly." Jones could potentially compete for five golds in Athens this year - 100m, 200m, long jump and the two relays - although she has yet to confirm which events she will contest. She won three of those five in Sydney in what she termed at the time her "drive for five".
