Ed Moses again proved too strong for the British challenge in the Swedish leg of the FINA World Cup in Stockholm. Once again all five of the British breaststroke force made it into the 100m final but the outcome was the same. Moses is the world record holder over the 100m and in a time of 58.08 seconds, he never looked threatened, not even by Japan's longcourse world champion Kosuke Kitajimi (58.68) James Gibson turned at halfway in second place but once again the Brit lacked the finish and faded to third in a time of 58.87secs - followed by the rest of the British team occupying third to seventh positions. Moses therefore remains first in the overall men's World Cup points, toppling fellow American sensation Michael Phelps off top spot. In the women's events Melanie Marshall qualified for the 400m final in fourth place but took third in a time of four minutes 4.36secs. In the 100m freestyle Alison Sheppard failed to improve on her time from the heats, finishing seventh with a disappointing time of 55.05secs, with Marshall again showing promise taking fourth (54.20). Sheppard did improve though and claimed third spot in her final swim of the competition in the 100m individual medley with a solid time of 1minute 1.67secs, behind second placed Yafei Zhou of China (1:01.06) and impressive Slovakian Martina Moravcova (1:00.36). The most exciting British swim of the night was produced by 16-year-old Laura Chase who, after being seeded as seventh fastest for the 400m individual medley, shone in the outside lane to finish third in a time of 4min 44.66secs.
