 Ananova:
Hallett hails 'Houdini' escape

Veteran campaigner Mike Hallett staged a remarkable recovery to reach the second stage of qualifying for the Embassy World Championship at Prestatyn.

The 44-year-old, a quarter-finalist at The Crucible in 1987 and 1989, came from 4-0 down to edge Welshman Pete Roscoe 5-4.

"They'll have to start calling me Houdini after that," said Hallett, who needs to win six further matches next month to reach the televised stage.

"It's nice to let people know that I'm still around. I haven't played particularly well this week but I've battled all the way to the end."

Steve James, a Crucible semi-finalist in 1991, also advanced to the next phase after beating teenager Ben Woollaston 5-1.
